The story of Beauty and the Beast begin here......

Our love story is well known among our friends and relatives. We knew each other through MiRC, a chatting tool which is very famous during our secondary school time. After 7 years of dating, me and Darling, Leonard finally decided to engage on 9th May 2008. Honestly speaking, engagement was not our initial idea, it actually came from our parents, as both of us decided to leave our hometown, Kuching and start our new career. After both of our parents learnt that we are going to leave our hometown soon, they suggested us to engage first. Our engagement was prepared in a hurried; we didn’t plan it earlier and we didn’t choose the date based on our zodiac sign, birth date, birth time and etc. like what traditional Chinese will do. My mama just simply flipped through the calendar and suggested we shall engage on 8th May 2008.

Then, we have a more formal dinner at Li Garden Hock Lee Centre to discuss about my 聘金 thingy and this dinner also served as a session for both of my family and Leonard’s family to know each other.



After the date is finalized, we went to the bridal shop, Crown Bridal studio, located at Jalan Tun Jugah , the studio where Leonard took his graduation picture to take our so called “Engagement Photo”. We didn’t sign a comprehensive package which needs us to wear gowns and suits and come with a full page fancy design album. Instead we just bought a simple couple photo package as we thought this is just a ceremony that make us become a more “official” couple but of course our status after engagement is still SINGLE, wait…. BUT NOT AVAILABLE!

One week before the actual date of our engagement, we started to do preparation – customizing the 喜糖，inform friends and relatives about the party and went to studio to choose our engagement picture.

My papa who dotes me the most, suggested organizing a buffet party at my home. As usual, we ordered the buffet from the restaurant that we will go every time for most of the event - Fook Xing Restaurant, located at Sekama Road.

Finally, 09 May 2008 has come.

The first I did in the morning was grooming! I went to the saloon nearby my house to give my hair a temporary curl and wait for 9am as this is the best time for the engagement.

This is our喜糖, lovely and sweet pink box tied with red ribbon and pink engagement card with gold color printed words on it.



The most important part of engagement, ring exchange between me and Leonard. After he put the ring on my finger, it means that I BELONGS TO HIM, and this is the moment where happiness started, the moment where our love is not just the matter between the two of us, is between the two families - The Wong and The Lim.





Well, after the ring exchange ceremony, it’s time for meal as everyone is hungry, oops, I should called it as brunch as I didn’t eat anything since this morning! As a Henghua, we will eat “Pa Mee” 打面 for most of the big event like wedding and the 9th day of Chinese New Year and this end the morning session of our engagement.


6PM, our engagement party started. We didn’t have much time to enjoy the dinner as we need to serve and entertain our friends and relatives but we really enjoyed as we can feel the blessings from them.

Hereby, I would like to take this chance to say a big THANK YOU for all my friends and relatives who have contribute their help in my engagement as well as who make themselves available to attend the party. We truly felt blessed.
